Barbara is happy to announce that her 2009 painting, Construct 2, oil on canvas, 182 × 152 cm, from the Show and Tell series, has been acquired by Rugby Art Gallery and Museum for their 25th anniversary celebration.

"To mark the 25th anniversary of Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, Construct 2 by Barbara Walker has been acquired as a significant addition to The Rugby Collection. This powerful work reflects their ongoing commitment to collecting art that is socially relevant, representative, and deeply connected to both local and national conversations around identity, belonging, and visibility.

In the context of the Rugby Art Gallery and Museum’s collection, Construct 2 offers an essential narrative about identity and representation, addressing gaps in the collection’s exploration of contemporary social issues. The painting adds a younger, more urban perspective to the interrogation of race, culture, and identity, and opens new pathways for dialogue within the collection. This acquisition not only enhances the depth of The Rugby Collection but also affirms the gallery’s commitment to presenting diverse voices and perspectives ensuring that our collection remains inclusive, reflective and relevant to our community. Walker’s Birmingham roots further amplify the relevance of her work to Rugby and the Midlands, fostering a strong regional connection that resonates with the gallery’s mission to represent and reflect its community."
