Overview
For the Record brought together works by female artists from two major art collections: City of Birmingham and The Arts Council Collection. It aimed to open up conversations between works of art and between artists and their contexts, ideas and narratives, Including themes such as preservation, tradition, documentation and recording across a wide range of media including portraiture, landscape, sculpture and installation.
Works reflect both the time in which they were made and current trends in art with Walker's work in particular challenging stereotypes and traditional assumptions. Are they records of real lived experience or imagined constructs?
